Before Your First Visit (a.k.a. "THE RULES")

There are a few things to know before you bring your pet to The Contented Canine for the first time.

Your pet must be current on all vaccinations.  Required vaccines include canine distemper, parvovirus, leptospirosis, rabies, and bordetella (kennel cough).  Please note that the bordetella vaccine is very similar to the human flu vaccine and doesn't always protect against every strain of the virus, but does greatly reduce your dog's risk of contracting kennel cough.  We recommend that the bordetella vaccine be administered every six months.  Please check with your veterinarian.  All vaccines should be administered at least two weeks prior to your visit for optimal protection.  Written documentation of vaccines from a licensed veterinarian is required and will be kept on file for all clients.  Please remember to provide us with current copies of records whenever your dog is given a new set of vaccinations.

Puppies under 4 months of age must have a series of 2 vaccinations, but are exempt from the rabies requirement only.

The Contented Canine is a flea free environment!  In order to prevent the spread of unwanted critters, all dogs must receive monthly flea and tick treatment.  If we notice fleas on your dog while she is visiting with us, we will bathe her immediately and you will be charged our standard bathing fee.

All dogs must be spayed or neutered.  Puppies less than 10 months of age are exempt from this requirement.

The Contented Canine is a cage free group environment.  Not all dogs play well with others.  There are some dogs who simply don’t enjoy the company of other canines.  For this reason, all dogs will be evaluated prior to being placed in a play group.  We will make every effort to accommodate the needs of everyone, but this is not always possible.  Please understand that some dogs are not suited for this type of environment and will not pass our evaluation process.  This may sound harsh, but it is necessary for the safety and well being of both your dog and the other dogs in our care.  Not passing the evaluation does not in any way indicate that you have a “bad dog”.  It simply means that The Contented Canine is not a place that your dog will enjoy.  For the safety of all our valued clients, we reserve the right to refuse services if our staff deems it necessary.

Prior to your first visit, we suggest bringing your dog in for a 1-2 hour trial period.  This visit is free of charge and will help us determine whether or not your dog is a good candidate for daycare.

It is important to remember that accidents can occur at dog daycare.  Dogs will be dogs, and sometimes they may play a bit too rough or even fight with one another.  The staff at The Contented Canine is experienced in animal behavior and is trained to recognize potentially dangerous situations, but occasionally accidents can happen.  If your pet is injured during his or her visit with us, our staff will quickly determine whether veterinary attention is warranted.  If we feel that your dog requires medical care, we will transport him or her to a local veterinarian for emergency care and you will be held responsible for the payment of all medical bills.  If you feel that the risks that accompany a group play type of environment are not outweighed by the benefits, please do not enroll your dog at The Contented Canine. A Client Information Form and Waiver must be completed and signed and current veterinarian records must be provided prior to your dog’s first visit with us.  We recommend that you download the forms from our website before your first visit or we will be happy to provide you with a copy at our office.

We all love our dogs. They are faithful companions, guardians of our homes, a source of comical entertainment, providers of unconditional love, and so much more. Amazingly unselfish, they ask for little in return. But we owe it to them to recognize their needs just as they recognize ours. Dog daycare can benefit your pet in many different ways.

Socialization
Dogs are very social animals. In order for them to know what it means to “be a dog”, they need to be exposed to other members of their own species. Dog daycare provides a unique opportunity for your pet to socialize with other dogs of different shapes and sizes, fulfilling his need for social interaction.

Exercise
Many of our pets are overweight. As with humans, an overweight dog is more likely to experience health problems such as diabetes and joint pain. Regular visits to dog daycare will help your pet burn off those extra calories and remain fit and trim for a long and healthy life.

Stimulation
Dogs need both physical and mental stimulation to be completely fulfilled. A lack of either type of stimulation can result in separation anxiety and destructive behaviors such as chewing, digging, and excessive barking. Dog daycare can provide the stimulation your dog needs to be a satisfied member of your family.

 Home Services
Are you having your carpets cleaned or the air conditioner repaired? A visit with us will get Fido out of the house while you take care of business.

Medications
Some of our pets are taking medications that need to be administered during the daytime. Obviously this can pose a problem for busy, working professionals. At The Contented Canine, your dog's medications will be administered at the correct time by a trained and experienced veterinary technician.

Training
Always wanted a well trained dog but don’t have the time or experience to train him yourself? For an additional fee, we can provide a training program catered to your individual needs.
